South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday night reshuffled Upper Nile State government officials representing the ruling SPLM Party.
In a decree announced on the state-owned media, Kiir relieved Jeremiah Deng Akol, Minister of Peace Building, Habassa Ajak Nyawela, Minister of Youth and Sports, Luke Sadala Deng, Minister of Information and Communication, Mary William, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry, and Imalo Nyok, Minister of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development.
The South Sudanese leader then appointed Kiir James Monyluak Majok, Minister of Peace Building; James Basha, Minister of Information and Communication; Paulino Onyau Mayik, Minister of Youth and Sports; Yatjok Edward Ador, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry, and Diing Deng Lueth, Minister of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development.
The President also relieved Elijah Riak Chol and Paul Kur and replaced them with Moses Achuil and Peter Nguajok as Deputy Chairperson of the Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation Commission and Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission, respectively.
The President also relieved Joseph Aban Odong, Fashoda County Commissioner, Kak Padiet Kak, Renk County Commissioner, Barac Chol Lual, Melut County Commissioner, James Majok Chol, Akoka County Commissioner and Joseph Deng Angau, Baliet County Commissioner.
Kiir then appointed Yango Olak, Fashoda County Commissioner, Martin Monykuer, Baliet County Commissioner, Geiu Chol Yash, Akoka County Commissioner, Chok Zain Arop, Melut County Commissioner and Achok Jol Achec, Renk County Commissioner.
Kiir’s reshuffle also saw the removal of several figures in the state parliament. Chuol Dhep Kier, the Speaker of the Upper Nile State Parliament, and state MPs, including Chol Kewet Anyang, Lual Deng Chol, and Simon Malueth, had their appointments revoked. The reasons for these changes are yet to be disclosed.
He replaced the former parliamentarians with Jacob Dola Ruth, Speaker of the Upper Nile State Parliament, and members of parliament, including Dheiu Anyong Duo, Ajak Bol Akol, and Sarah Deng Chan.
